A friend of mine had the amazing ability to come up with the most daring, risky, and just plain crazy plans when things were really on the line in a game. That's not that impressive, since crazy plans are something gamers do naturally. No, the amazing part was that when he came up with these crazy, impossible plans, they worked. He could ace the one roll that mattered, crit the one time that nothing but a crit would do, and just generally make the rest of the gaming group gasp in delight and wonder.
Clearly, Abbie has that same ability. But can she roll like he does??
And now, a Chimera poem, for Chimera week! Remember, the week's not over yet!! Come back tomorrow for the Saturday strip!
Lucretius, ibid,, book 5.
..... Once again, since flame
Is wont to scorch and burn the tawny bulks
Of the great lions as much as other kinds
Of flesh and blood existing in the lands,
How could it be that she, Chimaera lone,
With triple body- fore, a lion she;
And aft, a dragon; and betwixt, a goat-
Might at the mouth from out the body belch
Infuriate flame?

AWESOME!! That last panel is easily your finest work, Alina! Well done!
Just reminds me of that Dragonlance game when my little Thief would make some elaborate plan to take out the guards and the rest of the group looked at me and made a similar look to the lion head being woken up.
I can't for the life of me remember what the name of that Rogue was.
Why, do I detect some Master Sword inspiration in that blade? Methinks I do. ^^
Loving this.
Erm...just to make it clear, in my previous comment I was referring to the comic from the 21st. Wherein Abbie is airborne and face-to-face(and-face-and-face) with the Chimera.
The comments regarding pulling out the impossible remind me of my little gnome wizard and his companions, who were set upon by trolls, promptly losing their paladin to an unlucky monster crit in the first round, and their elven ranger soon thereafter. However, we'd managed to whittle the enemies down to a single troll, but at the cost of our paladin and elven archer and I think one other, leaving my gnome Adoward, a weak bard, and a heavily wounded death cleric.
Then followed the gnome wizard's hour to shine. And the good fortune of a well-chosen spell roster. Gathering the survivors in close and casting invisibility sphere over them, my relatively low-level gnome proceeded to summon a trio of Celestial Wolves, which began to harras the troll with a remarkable survivability though little damage, and followed them up with the summoning of a Thoqqua.
Thus began the saga of what became known as Bob the Blind Thoqqua. Bob attacked the troll. And missed. The troll attacked Bob, and burned himself badly. Bob attacked the troll, and missed. As the wolves were falling, Adoward called in a trio of Celestial Badgers to keep the troll in flank. The troll attacked Bob, and burned himself badly. Bob attacked the troll, and missed. The troll attacked Bob, and burned himself badly. And on very last try, hit points hanging by a thread, Bob actually hit the troll for strong fire damage. With a fresh wave of enemies fast approaching, our death cleric took a critical risk and stepped out of invisibility to attack the wounded troll with his scythe. And scored a natural 20 for a crit, followed by a natural 20 on the crit roll, killing the troll. Elated, our valiant party gathered up the wounded onto a levitating disk and ran for town. ;)
Completely not in the category of crazy plans that work, but snickering corpses' comment reminded me of a fun character we had in one group. There's an appearance attribute in the game we played, and as luck had it, this guy rolled a very bad result for his dwarf. The sort of result that makes people freak out a little if they see you. Also, for some freaky reason, he was a were-bat. He'd have a chance to turn into a bat when hit in combat.
There was an elf in the group as well, and the two of them honoured the tradition of bickering to the point of starting a fight one night. The elf mage got out a fire spell, and as luck would have it, the hit turned the dwarf into a bat... with quite a few fewer hit points than the dwarf originally had, so the blast near killed him.
As it was, he was "just" permanently scarred, dropping his appearance even further. So... normally you'd have a dwarf so ugly that he can make people run away screaming, but as a bat his appearance would technically be negative... we had a lot of fun discussing what that might mean according to the rules :)
