Just out of curiosity - are there any comic fans/creators in the Edmonton area? If so, send me an email! It'd be great to chat.
I've been in the city for a full month now (man, does time fly...) and I have yet to go and check out any of the comic shops or gaming stores in town. Not that I don't know where they are, mind you, because I've visited here enough to spot a number of them. Things have just been far too busy to spend much time exploring the interesting places in my new city. (I do, however, make an exception for food places, since a hungry comic artist isn't a happy comic artist, and -this- comic artist is especially happy when she has delicious Thai food to consume.)
Observation #2 - This city needs more bridges. I'm from Saskatoon - The City of Bridges. It's about 1/5th the size, but has more than half the amount of bridges that Edmonton does, and it's still barely enough. Here, though, where several of the bridges only go one way, it's a dire need. Still, Edmonton gets points for the prettier river bank.

A friend of mine used to live in Edmonton and he said there's an amazing two-floor shop called The Army Box (or something close to that). It has one floor of comics and one floor of gaming. He says it the best shop he's ever been in!
BTW really love the comic. I've only been reading it since last week, but I totally devoured the archives and hungrily await each new comic. I can totally sympathize with your protagonist...
Woo! Saskatoon!
That is all.
I believe there are shops near a sword store, and the amusement park in the WEM.
Hello, Alina! Yes, I am and Edmontonian, and a huge fan of your comic. Your best bet for a comic store, hands down, is Happy Harbor Comics (10112 124 street). Best comic store ever, and if you go to their website (www.happyharborcomics.com) you will see that that is not hyperbole; they were given the Schuster Award for Best Comic Retailer in Canada.
As for gaming stores, nothing that really stands out in Edmonton. In nearby St. Albert there is Mission: Fun and Games which is an amazing gaming store. I don't have the address off the top of my head, but it is in the phone book. They have their instore gaming convention this weekend, Game-a-lot, which you should check-out if you have the time.
And October 13 and 14 there will be The Pure Speculation Festival, the local sci-fi/gaming convention. Check out the website at www.purespec.org. I'm very proud of it, but then, I started it. :)
Hope that helps. If you need any more Edmonton insight, just drop me a line at my blog, www.brentdorklord.blogspot.com.
Cheers, and welcome to Edmonton!
Also, it isn't the Army Box, it's The Sentry Box. And it's in Calgary. Good store, though.
For gaming stores, what you really want is, yes, Mission Games.
Also, you should check out the downtown market tomorrow morning: 103rd Ave and 104th Street, I believe (or at least in that vicinity).
Wow, thanks for the advice you guys!! I checked their website, and realized that Happy Harbor Comics is just down the street from where I live. Even better, they're hosting a comic jam this week! I'm definitely going to have to go check it out.
I'm also going to have to check out PureSpec. Way to go Brent, it sounds like a great con - sorry, festival. :) There's even a webcomics panel - a definite must-see!
Darn it! The minute I move to Saskatoon, you move to Edmonton! That's just karma *pouts*.
