I got this fantastic guest strip from Cleo and Thomas, and knew that I had to run it before this storyline was over. So, here it is!! A sort of choose-your-own-ending version of... The Jess Dilemma!

How will the real version turn out? You'll just have to wait until Wednesday...

Happy New Year!! Hope everyone had a great time welcoming in the new year, whether you were out partying or at home indulging in a little gaming.

What will 2008 bring? Well, hopefully, a whole bunch of changes to the Weregeek site! I have a bunch of things that I've wanted to add to the page for a while now, which means that the page is going to need a big revamp.

A friend of mine had the amazing ability to come up with the most daring, risky, and just plain crazy plans when things were really on the line in a game. That's not that impressive, since crazy plans are something gamers do naturally. No, the amazing part was that when he came up with these crazy, impossible plans, they worked. He could ace the one roll that mattered, crit the one time that nothing but a crit would do, and just generally make the rest of the gaming group gasp in delight and wonder.

Clearly, Abbie has that same ability. But can she roll like he does??

Wow, you guys did it again!! The donation meter* topped out over the weekend, which means that there will be an extra strip this Saturday!! In honor of this event, (and because they're really fun to draw) I hereby proclaim it Chimera Week!

That's right - this week's theme is the mysterious, three-headed (usually) Chaotic Evil beast. Did you know that the dragon head of the chimera comes in five colors, and that the color of the head denotes its breath weapon? It's true!

Black: Line of Acid (Not actually what it sounds like!)
Blue: Line of Lightning (May be more jaggedy than advertised...)
Green: Cone of Gas (Again, not actually what it sounds like. This is a breath weapon, after all....)
Red: Cone of Fire (As opposed to the more traditional ring)
White: Cone of Frost (Infinitely more lethal that the Cone of Snow)

*I'm still working my way through a mass of emails (wow, you guys are incredible! I feel loved!), so I might have missed a donation or two. Things should be straightened out by midweek, once the pre-Christmas crunch is over. Thanks for sticking with me!

In all the excitement of building up the big reveal of Chapter 5, I completely forgot a really big date - namely, Weregeek's One Year Anniversary!!

One year ago, Mark first stumbled into a vampire game after being chased by the mysterious Hunter.. Now, a year and over 150 strips later, we find out that the threat is even greater than he'd thought! What will happen this year? I can't say.

Actually, I won't say. I'll just sit over here, by my drafting table, and cackle maniacally to myself. Heh. Heh. Heh.

I can't believe I hadn't mentioned this sooner, since I was so excited when I first heard the news.

Howard Tayler, of Schlock Mercenary fame, has just received a 10,000 pound shipment of books. What book you ask? Why, none other than Schlock Mercenary : The Tub of Happiness, a full-color collection of his earliest strips!

If you've heard of Schlock Mercenary before, then you have a good idea why this news is so exciting to me. And if you haven't, well, you're in luck, because this book is the perfect place to start!

I have his other books, and they're fabulous. Howard has always included all kinds of extras in his books - from sketches, to fanart, to entire extra stories. This book will be no different. This book includes fanart from such wonderful folks as Cas Allen, Jeff Darlington, Brad Guigar, David Kellett, Tiffany Ross, Krishna Sadasivam, Paul Taylor, Kevin Wasden, and Jim Zubkavich. Oh, and there's a little sketch by some weird chick named Alina Pete.

Anyway, there's a special pre-order deal going on until Monday, Dec. 3rd, so if you have the chance, you should go check it out!!

I love Halloween. As a costume geek, how could I not?? Case in point - I went to a Halloween party last weekend. Neither xaq or I had thought of what we were going to wear right up until it was almost time to leave, but we pulled together two pretty cool costumes with just the stuff we had lying around in our closet.

One might think that dressing up once a month for a LARP would sort of take the fun out of Halloween. (After all, you don't exactly get to freak anyone out at the local coffee shops on Halloween!) You'd be wrong. I still love it, if you couldn't tell by the special extra-long Halloween strip. :)

A holiday set aside for dressing up and running around scaring people? Dude. I'm in.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately - I have been ten different flavors of busy! Thankfully, things should be settling down again pretty soon, and I should have a little more free time to do things like post on the forum, update my newsbox, and, oh yeah, draw some more comics. (Don't worry - the buffer's still there! It's just looking a little less full than I'd prefer it.)

Exciting news - I got my first piece of fanart the other day! Woo!! It's a picture of Sarah and Abbie doing a little cosplay as their favorite Fruits Basket characters, and I think it's awesome! I'm going to have to set up a fanart section on the extras page so you guys can see it too. (Thanks again, Em!)

Well, that's it for Chapter 4. I hope people have been enjoying the drama! Chapter 5 is going to be a blast! I've been wanting to get back to the vampire storyline for a while now. Maybe it's just nostalgia - Vampire was my first LARP, after all - but I always love writing for the vampire characters.

I also love drawing them. Mark's black outfit, accessorized with an anhk, is pretty much standard issue for most new vampire players (and, one might theorize, for new goths as well).

Just out of curiosity - are there any comic fans/creators in the Edmonton area? If so, send me an email! It'd be great to chat.

I've been in the city for a full month now (man, does time fly...) and I have yet to go and check out any of the comic shops or gaming stores in town. Not that I don't know where they are, mind you, because I've visited here enough to spot a number of them. Things have just been far too busy to spend much time exploring the interesting places in my new city. (I do, however, make an exception for food places, since a hungry comic artist isn't a happy comic artist, and -this- comic artist is especially happy when she has delicious Thai food to consume.)

Observation #2 - This city needs more bridges. I'm from Saskatoon - The City of Bridges. It's about 1/5th the size, but has more than half the amount of bridges that Edmonton does, and it's still barely enough. Here, though, where several of the bridges only go one way, it's a dire need. Still, Edmonton gets points for the prettier river bank.

Weregeek P.S.A. - If you can't see today's comic, try refreshing the page! (shift-f5 in most browsers, or just hit the refresh button.)

There's a weird glitch with the latest Comic Genesis server update, and it means that most CG sites won't show the updated versions unless the browser is refreshed. There's no word yet on when this will be fixed.

Sorry for the inconvenience, folks! I'd love to have this site running flawlessly, but it's looking like that's not going to be possible until I can afford my own hosting, and that's a ways away.

I'm back!!

Man, what a whirlwind few weeks! First, there was the move, which took three days and lots and lots of help from our friends. (Thanks guys!) And then, exactly a week later, we drove for 11 hours to get to a remote lake in Northern Saskatchewan so that we could finally relax and enjoy the first bit of vacation time I've had in a while. We canoed, did a little fishing, and managed to find the biggest patch of wild blueberries I've ever seen. And, even better, we did not get eaten by bears.

The vacation was a much needed break, but now that I'm back I can't slack off too much. The move and the vacation have pretty much cleaned out the ol' buffer, and there's a ton of extras for the page that I want to get working on. You know, so that I'll actually have something up on the Extras page, for instance. There's also the D&D group picture for the forum gamers that I'm sure people are itching to see.

Back to work for me!

xaq & I are all moved in to our new place, though we've still got a ton of unpacking to do. Edmonton has been treating us well - in the past few days, we've found an amazing Thai place, hung out with some awesome folks, and had shawarma so good that I dreamed of it last night. Mmm... shawarma...

I'm working to get the buffer caught back up, since we're going to take advantage of the fact that I've got a little time off to finally take a vacation next week to do some camping. The buffer will, once again, cover my downtime, but it means that updates here on the newsblog and in the forum are going to be a little sparse.

Wow! It looks like comic #100 was a big hit! I've heard from lots of people who are trying to put together a list of all of the cameos/visual references hidden in the game shop. So far, this [link] is the most insanely complete list I've seen. Seriously. There's stuff on that list that *I* didn't even know was in there. So, wow, Tom. You win. A lot.

My forum-ites are awesome. :)

Which makes me kind of sad that I haven't had the chance to get on there and gab much this week. (Especially since there's a speculation thread on the new Harry Potter book, and I'm already twitchily awaiting its release.) I have been super-crazy busy at work. It's my last week, and I'm trying to get an entire episode finished off before I go, so I've been pulling some serious overtime. xaq and I are also moving out of the province at the end of the month, and have been scrambling to get some packing done. Luckily, I've got plenty of strips in the buffer, so we should get smoothly through everything with no more harm than a few less strips between me and update days.

So, expect things to keep running smoothly around here, even if the artist is slightly frazzled. It sound like CG has the new server up and running, and so far, it's been solid as a rock. Somebody knock on wood for me.

Here it is folks - comic #100!

Seven months ago (give or take a little bit) I posted the first Weregeek comic. And since then, we haven't missed a single update. Sure, the server's been a little touchy, and there's been some downtime and late updates. But the comics? They've always -always- been posted on their update days, even when I have to host them somewhere else or put them on the forum.

Why am I so concerned about consistent updates? I like making sure you guys aren't left hanging. I'm a big webcomic geek myself, and I know how much it sucks when you're looking forward to your favorite strip and it isn't there.

So, thank you guys for sticking with me through the first hundred strips, wonky server and all. Here's to the next hundred!

Wow, what is up with Myer's ears in that last panel? If you didn't notice them before (and I don't blame you - they were far more subtle than, say, a troll...) I imagine that you will have by now. I suppose the whole 'Looks Human" merit doesn't work so well in close-ups. :)

Also, if you've been counting (and if you have, you must be terribly bored...). then you would have realized that this strip is #98, which would make this Friday's comic strip 100! Woo! We've reached the first major milestone! Now, let's all keep our fingers crossed that the server won't kak out before then, because strip 100 will be a big strip!
